Summer has officially begun at our house, with all three DamKids finishing up this week. Two years ago at this time I was an absolute mess when No Thank You Boy completed eighth grade and was promoted (with great fanfare) to high school. Yesterday, the Pickle also “graduated” from middle school, but thankfully I haven’t been nearly as big of an emotional wreck. I’ve experienced two years of having a high schooler in the house, and I have to say (aside from the teenage silent treatment) it hasn’t been that bad. I mean, the sky didn’t fall or anything, and I still have my middle age.
None of that has anything to do with food – other than the fact that while life has been incredibly busy, people around here have still gotta eat. Here’s what the DamFam menu looks like this week; play along if you like. : )
Value Packs of Sendik’s Boneless Chicken Breasts are on sale, and I’ve got two recipes up my sleeve. The first is my favorite Barbecued Chicken. Don’t be dissuaded by the homemade sauce – it’s super easy, makes great use of ingredients you probably already have in your pantry, and is entirely worth the teensy weensy bit of extra time it will take to pull it together. You will love it!
Secondly, if you’re in the mood for greens, you have to try this awesome Cobb Salad with Herbs and Sherry Vinaigrette. I think I’ve said it here before, but when I was pregnant with my youngest, I couldn’t seem to work enough Cobb Salads into my life and I ate at least one every single week for 40 weeks. True story. Anyway, don’t let a homemade dressing scare you off, you can totally do this! It’s fantastic and a total snap to make from scratch. Sale ingredients include Value Packs of Sendik’s Boneless Chicken Breasts (as mentioned), Tasti-Lee Tomatoes and Romaine Lettuce.
Sendik’s Natural Boneless Sirloin Steaks are on sale and I just want to remind you of this awesome sirloin recipe from a month or so ago – Grilled Sirloin Steaks with Blue Cheese Walnut Butter. The weekend is coming and you might be hosting a cookout – this is the perfect way to serve steak to a crowd without blowing the budget. It really is excellent and and leftover butter is fantastic on toasted baguette, steamed asparagus or roasted potatoes.
Have a great week, and happy summer. : )
