Ginger-Soy Grilled Steak
Oh my gosh, here’s a post for any and all bargain-hunting carnivores: I’ve got one for you today. A really good one. And even though I almost just burned my house down (no lie) by broiling the steak that’s in the photo above, I am still like, mega excited to tell you about this recipe. However due to the recent pyrotechnics in the oven, my entire house now smells like an Outback Steakhouse, so let’s just get on with this so that I can get on with the small matter of airing out the joint.

Pork Chops with Ginger Soy Glaze and Coconut Rice with Scallions & Almonds
Here’s another one of those open-palm-meets-forehead recipes that I’ve had in my repertoire for a long, long time (since 2/2000 according to my chicken scratch) but has never made its way to the blog until today. It’s such an easy prep for a simple and inexpensive cut of pork, and I am sorry for not sharing it before now. I’ve been holding out on you guys, I guess! But since boneless sirloin chops are on sale this week, there’s no time like the present. Give them a try, and don’t skip the coconut rice — it’s not that much more work than making a boxed version but tastes just a little extra special. In fact, it goes over so well here that I’m always mad I didn’t make a wee bit more.

Spicy Chicken and Bok Choy Noodle Bowls
The DamFam is playing a super fun game of Pass the Cold in which No Thank You Boy and I are currently “it.” So even though I just posted a chicken-y something last week, here’s another one since I can’t seem to work enough chicken soup into my diet lately. Besides, I have it on good authority that FFF readers adore chicken dishes, and I aim to please. So, here you go. This one is Asian-inspired and spicy and the perfect thing for unplugging a stuffed up head.

Slow Cooker Asian Baby-Back Ribs
If your family is a fan of both ribs and Asian flavors, here’s the perfect slow cooker meal idea for you and yours — keep this one in your back pocket for Sundays when pork ribs will be on sale for a ridiculously low price during the Seven Days, Seven Ways to Save Sale. Stop in to the Store early enough in the day that you can set up all of these ingredients in your slow cooker. Then walk away from your kitchen and revel in the fact that your house is going to smell amazing all day long, and dinner will be ready when you want it with hardly any fuss, and very little expense. Enjoy this one; we sure did.

Sweet & Sour Shrimp
Have you had the flu in your house yet this season? If you have – I’m sorry for you. And if you haven’t, go wash your hands and pop some vitamin C, ’cause here’s what I know: it totally stinks and it seems to be never ending. On the bright side, it’s been great for the post-holiday diet. I’d love to tell you what these Sweet & Sour Shrimp taste like, but I can’t because my nose isn’t working and, therefore, neither is my sense of taste. However, this meal received three out of three thumbs up from the punks, which qualifies it as blogworthy, so here you go.

Slow Cooker Sweet & Spicy Asian Pork Shoulder
I totally get why some people I know are obsessed with their slow cookers. And just like how I was late to the Pinterest party, I’ve finally figured out what slow cooker love is all about. I’m on board. I’m with it. I’m mad about the thing, to tell you the truth.
I spontaneously picked up a pork shoulder last Friday, not really knowing what I was going to do with it. But there it was, sitting in the case and somehow it found its way into my cart. It happens. I brought it home and did a little bit of research – I knew I wanted something different than my same old pork carnita standby because honestly, I think the whole DamFam is suffering from taco overload. Again, it happens. My fault completely, too. I decided on Asian flavors, and hit it out of the park with this meal.

Sesame Beef and Scallion Skewers
I’m constantly on the lookout for great grilling ideas. Easy ones. I don’t get in to the whole “let’s soak mesquite chips then build a dual cooking hi temp / low temp charcoal fire and smoke a twenty pound brisket for five hours” scene. When it comes to that type of grilling, I fully admit that I’m fighting outside my weight class. You’ve probably noticed by now I’m pretty much all about simple, uncomplicated, family-friendly, fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants recipes, and when it comes to grilling, I don’t really make any exceptions. Some would call me stubborn annnnnnnd …. I would have to agree.

Enjoy Sendik’s All Week: Lettuce Wraps Two Ways
Lettuce wraps are one of those rare dinners that actually pleases whole DamFam. They’re fun to eat, a little messy, and healthy all at the same time. I have two different kid-tested, mother-approved versions for you today; one has been buried in the blog archive for quite a while, and the other is a recipe I simply cannot even believe I’ve never shared here before, especially since it’s high on the list of The DamFam Top Ten. Either one you choose to make would be perfect for a busy weeknight.

Spicy Shrimp and Bok Choy Noodle Bowls
You’ll never believe what’s on sale this week. I’ll just tell you, because Sendik’s carries a lot of ingredients and asking you to guess the item I’m talking about could keep us here a good long time, and I know you have better things to do with your day than to sit here and play the grocery version of Twenty Questions with me right now. The answer is … ramen noodles. Ramen! As if they weren’t already ridiculously cheap to begin with, ramen have gone even lower. Ten silly cents a pack. Is that bananas or what?

Chinese Chicken Legs
Last Thursday, I — along with the rest of the jiggly New Year’s resolutioners — found myself in the super-unfortunate and un-fun spot of waiting for cardio equipment at the gym. Those of us who took four (*ahem*) six weeks off from our workouts during the holiday season had at last come to our senses and turned up for our turn on the treadmill. If we thought we were going to be greeted with open arms by those hard bodied witches, I mean, dedicated souls, who had been attending their spin and cardio and yoga sessions all along and without fail throughout the month of December, we were sadly mistaken.
