You wouldn’t believe how difficult it was for me to wrestle back enough of this meal from the DamFam so I could accomplish picture taking today. This recipe is always a hit here, so I should have expected they would all be circling the stove like the sharks they are. Luckily, I was able to hoard this meager little helping, which was handed over to my sweet next door neighbor Fred, who just a little while ago helped me out of a major jam with my sump pump. The jam was that said pump decided to not work this morning and the alarm’s ear piercing shriek was putting a major damper on my blog writing capabilities. And incidentally, the basement was about to flood. Enter Fred, who not only helps moms bring new babies into the world every day, but also has the ability to diagnose household plumbing issues from 10 paces. He saved the day (as well as NTYB’s Xbox 360) and was thereby rewarded with Chicken & Dumplings. Thank you Fred, are the best. : )

And if you haven’t, go wash your hands and pop some vitamin C, ’cause here’s what I know: it totally stinks and it seems to be never ending. On the bright side, it’s been great for the post-holiday diet. I’d love to tell you what these Sweet & Sour Shrimp taste like, but I can’t because my nose isn’t working and, therefore, neither is my sense of taste. However, this meal received three out of three thumbs up from the punks, which qualifies it as blogworthy, so here you go.
I totally get why some people I know are obsessed with their slow cookers. And just like how I was late to the Pinterest party, I’ve finally figured out what slow cooker love is all about. I’m on board. I’m with it. I’m mad about the thing, to tell you the truth.
I spontaneously picked up a pork shoulder last Friday, not really knowing what I was going to do with it. But there it was, sitting in the case and somehow it found its way into my cart. It happens. I brought it home and did a little bit of research – I knew I wanted something different than my same old pork carnita standby because honestly, I think the whole DamFam is suffering from taco overload. Again, it happens. My fault completely, too. I decided on Asian flavors, and hit it out of the park with this meal.
Easter dinner was so delicious, but I’m about over ham, how about you? I intentionally overshot on the poundage, wanting to have leftovers. Well, leftovers we got. Had a ham sandwich for lunch yesterday. Put slices of it on egg sandwiches this morning. Easter dinner re-run last night. And there are still a few little scraps left in the fridge … the frugal cook in me should stash them away in the freezer for omelets or soup but I’ll admit I’ve been sneaking them to the DamDog. I’m swearing off ham. Tonight we’re having a meatless entree, and this is what it is.
Good-bye, December. Good-bye month of binge eating and drinking and sleeping too little and partying too much and committing random acts of embarrassing behavior in front of neighbors and friends (don’t ask). e labor intensive chore honor of hosting the varsity boys and girls cross country team dinner here this past Friday night. No Thank You Boy asked me if I would please forfeit my turn at hosting; I declined. I’m not sure what he thought I was going to do (burp out loud) or wear (mom jeans) or serve (beanie weenies) that would embarrass him in front of his team mates. Suffice it to say, it all went well and I don’t even think he ended up all that horrified by my outfit, food, or behavior. Good thing my dorky mom jeans were in the wash I guess, LOL.
My youngest never met a rich food she didn’t like, so it’s no surprise she has a major thing for fettuccine alfredo. She orders it whenever she’s given the chance, and she begs me to make it at home – but last time I checked, real alfredo has like, 12 tablespoons of butter and two cups of whipping cream. No thanks. As you’ve probably noticed by now, we’re the health conscious sort around here (cough), so we don’t do heavy whipping cream too often.
