Risotto with Corn, Tomatoes, and Basil

When I think of the perfect dish for a warm August evening, it would absolutely include the following ingredients: corn, tomatoes, and basil. Hence, today’s dish. This risotto is all about summer flavors and would be the perfect accompaniment to any grilled main course – I’m thinking my favorite herbed grilled shrimp, or seared salmon fillets, or even a big, thick steak.

Low Country Boil

I’m bringing up this recipe today because it is one of my favorite summertime meals, and I want you all to have access to it before we run out of summer. I make it for the DamFam, party of five – but I’ve also served it for dinner parties of up to 10 or so folks. One of my college roomies served it to a crowd of 50 people at her rehearsal dinner. I absolutely love Low Country Boil. It’s the quintessential southern meal!

Grilled Zucchini Caprese Sandwiches

Okay, okay – I know this isn’t the best photo I’ve ever taken. But I sincerely hope it conveys to you the overall feeling that this sandwich is trying to express — which is that of a gooey, casual, and somewhat rustic concoction on toasted French peasant bread. Yum. It won’t win any beauty contests, but I just ate the photo shoot and it. was. DELISH!

Steak Baguettes with Pesto Mayo

Summer Sandwich Challenge, Round 3: my favorite one yet! There are so many things I love about this sandwich, I hardly know where to start. I didn’t think it would be possible to beat my usual steak sandwich — this one comes pretty close though. I’m gonna call a tie.

Caesar Salad Bagels

As promised, here is the second sandwich in a series of five that I’m trying this week and next – I love this one. All you need is a toaster and a sharp knife! I served it with dill pickle spears, a big bowl of cherries, and handfuls of Sendik’s potato chips.

Herbed Chicken Salad Sandwiches

Cooking Light has a great piece on summer sandwiches in the August issue. I want to try all of them. In fact … you know that movie, Julie & Julia? Where the food blogger makes and blogs about each of the 524 recipes in Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking? Well, I’m gonna make all those sandwich recipes. That’s right, all five of them! Here’s the first.

Black and Blueberry Crisp with Peaches

No, you’re not having deja vu …. if this dish looks familiar to you it’s because I first posted it here last July and I still remember the day quite clearly: I ate the photo shoot for breakfast and made no apologies.

Even though I love trying new recipes, I’m bringing this crisp back out today. It’s the perfect time to make it – blueberries and peaches are on sale, it tastes like summer, and it’s easy like Sunday morning! I can’t think of a more perfect dessert for weekend entertaining.

The weather’s finally going to be gorgeous, the food’s gonna be tasty and there’s BIG fun ahead, so I WANT IT ALL and I WANT IT NOW!!

Strawberry Shortcake Sliders

Did anyone catch June’s issue of BonAppetit — the one that featured a cover photo of the stunning Gwyneth Paltrow, aka Mrs. Chris Martin? Did it strike anyone odd that the uber-buff GP would be square on the cover of a foodie magazine? ‘Cause I thought it was weird, m’self. I figured the new editor at BA must have some pretty low standards, kissing up to a superstar by giving her the cover shot. And then I started reading. And it turns out the model/singer/actress is also a pretty amazing homecook. Huh.
